At just 24, Jamie Duffy has emerged as one of Ireland’s most compelling new artists, blending folk, classical, and contemporary influences into a sound that’s both intimate and cinematic. His debut single Solas became the most streamed debut by an Irish artist since Hozier’s Take Me To Church, with over 125 million streams on Spotify, 25 million YouTube views, and 6.6 billion views on TikTok.
In 2024, the folk-classical composer released his debut EP On A Wing, sold out his first Irish headline tour (2,600+ tickets), and supported Andrea Bocelli and Hans Zimmer at BST Hyde Park. Now, with over 1.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify, he’s gearing up for his biggest chapter yet.
His debut self-titled album, out 10 October 2025, was recorded across Ireland and Iceland with BAFTA winner Atli Örvarsson. Forged between wild coastlines and still nights, the album reflects Jamie’s rural Monaghan roots, shaped by changing environments, Irish folklore, love, light, and trepidation.
Alongside the album, Jamie has scored his first feature film 500 Miles (starring Bill Nighy and Maisie Williams) and will tour Ireland, the UK, and Europe in autumn 2025.
"Whether he decides to be Ireland’s answer to Hans Zimmer or the next Yo-Yo Ma, the future is most certainly bright." - The Irish Times
Rising is the new single from Monaghan’s 24-year-old folk-classical composer, Jamie Duffy and the latest to be revealed from his upcoming debut album, set for release on 10th October. The release arrives alongside the announcement of Jamie’s first headline tour in the UK this November, including Cecil Sharp House in London on the 4th. Ahead of his arrival in the UK, Jamie Duffy plays his biggest headline show to date at the National Concert Hall in Dublin, firmly cementing his huge success in Ireland to date - on release, his debut single Solas became the most streamed debut by an Irish artist since Hozier’s Take Me To Church, with over 120 million streams on Spotify, 26 million YouTube views, and 6.6 billion views on TikTok.
Rising was written by Jamie and brought to life in the harsh beauty of Iceland after months of collaboration with BAFTA winning producer Atli Örvarsson. It was traveling between the freezing cold landscapes of Ireland and Iceland to create this record where inspiration bloomed and creativity thrived. Lilting whistles take centre stage in Rising, echoing early Irish traditional music and blending with a modern melodic journey, supported by rhythmic piano played by Jamie, and enriched by lush strings of violin, viola, and cello, performed by Agnes Eyja Gunnarsdóttir, Guðbjörg Hlín Guðmundsdóttir, Karl James Pestka, and Unnur Jónsdóttir. Guitar, arrangement, and conducting were masterfully managed by Kjartan Holm, completing a soundscape that both roots and transcends. Jamie is a believer in letting the listener interpret the piece,
“The beauty of instrumental music is that these tunes will mean something different to everyone. That is a very special thing and part of the reason why at times, I deliberately shy away from detailing the meaning and influences behind my work. Having said that, the inspiration for my first single from the coming album, ‘Rising’, is Ireland, from imposing landscapes to the madness and beauty I’ve experienced in Irish society particularly since moving to Dublin. I wanted the drama and pace of this tune to reflect all of that, in a fresh and modern sense, and for the piece to reflect that powerful and beautiful feeling of being Irish. In a musical sense, I knew from the beginning this track had to be massive. The little tin whistle being nestled amongst such a grand and dramatic musical bed makes for a lot of magic and creates a sound like no other."
As the lead single from the forthcoming album, Rising appropriately sets the tone for the cinematic journey that listeners can look forward to upon the album's release on the 10th of October. Crafted over two years between wild coastlines and still nights across the two awe-inspiring landscapes of Ireland and Iceland, the album reflects Jamie’s rural Monaghan roots, shaped by changing environments, Irish folklore, love, light and trepidation. It is a true labour of love and effort rarely known by those in their early twenties, but for Jamie, it was a journey he’s been working towards for some time. Alongside the album, Jamie has scored his first feature film 500 Miles, (starring Bill Nighy and Maisie Williams) due to be released later this year. Reuniting with his album producer Atli Örvarsson at his home studio in London, the project highlights the creative strength and synergy between the two collaborators. At just 24, Jamie Duffy has emerged as one of Ireland’s most compelling new artists, blending folk, classical, and contemporary influences into a sound that’s both intimate and cinematic.
